Chris Brown, the Grammy-winning singer, pleaded guilty to affray related to a fight at a London nightclub. This incident, which took place in February 2023, resulted in injuries to music producer Abraham Diaw.

The plea change occurred during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London. Initially, Brown faced more serious charges related to what the prosecution termed a ‘vicious attack’. By pleading guilty to affray, charges of assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon were dropped.

Brown’s friend, Omololu Akinlolu, who is also his vocal coach, entered a guilty plea for the same charge. Both were originally scheduled for trial in October.

During the incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, prosecutors allege Brown used a glass bottle to strike the victim’s head twice. Claire Campbell, a senior Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor, emphasized the unprovoked nature of the attack, stating, ‘This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable.’

After the plea, the prosecution reiterated their commitment to ensuring everyone, regardless of status, is held accountable under the law. Brown, who had previously been on bail set at £5 million ($6.75 million), continued his overseas tours during this time. He was again released on bail and will face sentencing on October 26. The maximum penalty for affray is three years.

Outside the courthouse, Brown was seen in a tan suit, accompanied by gold-rimmed sunglasses and a Cardinals baseball cap. He interacted with fans, signing autographs. Brown first rose to fame in 2005 as a teenager. His accolades include a Grammy for the R&B album ‘F.A.M.E.’ in 2011 and another for ’11:11 (Deluxe)’ in 2025.
