Chicago White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami Exits Game with Hamstring Issue

During Friday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox slugger Munetaka Murakami left in the third inning due to tightness in his right hamstring. The team announced that he is undergoing further evaluation.

Murakami sustained the injury while running to first base on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the third at Rate Field. With a runner on first and one out, Murakami hit a ground ball to second baseman Zach McKinstry. The Tigers secured a force out at second base, but Murakami managed to beat the throw to first, thus avoiding a double play. Following this play, the training staff attended to him, and he was subsequently removed from the game.

Entering Friday’s matchup, Murakami was tied with Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros for the American League lead in home runs, each boasting 20. Additionally, he was tied for first in the AL for RBIs (41) alongside Jonathan Aranda of the Tampa Bay Rays. Murakami signed a two-year contract with the White Sox during the offseason, after spending eight years with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Notably, he became the first rookie in major-league history to achieve 20 home runs before June.
