Chicago White Sox Triumph with Home Run Surge, Shutdown of Top Prospects Announced

White Sox Seize Victory with Home Runs

The Chicago White Sox faced a tough challenge in their recent games but turned things around with a strong offensive performance against the New York Mets. Initially struggling with just one hit in a 2-0 defeat to the Atlanta Braves, the Sox’s offense continued to falter in the first five innings against the Mets. However, the sixth inning showcased their ability to deliver instant offense.

Colson Montgomery played a pivotal role in the turnaround. After Munetaka Murakami drew a one-out walk, Miguel Vargas energized the team with a home run off Mets starter Sean Manaea. Randal Grichuk followed up with a 400-foot home run, sparking excitement among fans.

Montgomery, unfazed by the pressure of consecutive home runs, maintained his approach and delivered his 27th home run of the season, smashing an 0-1 sinker over the right-field wall. Reflecting on his at-bat, Montgomery stated, “I wasn’t thinking about hitting a home run. The goal was to stay calm amidst the charged atmosphere.”

Chicago’s offensive power led to four home runs in total during their 6-4 win. Catcher Jake Rogers sealed the victory with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. This achievement marked the second occasion this season the Sox achieved three consecutive home runs in a game; Montgomery was part of a similar feat against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The White Sox ranked second in home runs (171) and slugging percentage (.409) in the American League leading up to Saturday. Montgomery expressed the identity of the team’s offense as focused on aggressive slugging and hard hits.

While Montgomery has been hitting .209 since the All-Star break, recent performances show improvement, with an 8-for-21 (.381) record, including one home run and four RBIs in his last six games.

Manager Will Venable noted Montgomery’s recent positive trend, praising his swing decisions and hard-hitting capability.

Montgomery seeks to contribute in every series and game, believing his recent performance against the Cubs, akin to playoff baseball, boosted his momentum.

Sox Announce Season-Ending Updates for Top Prospects

The White Sox delivered news regarding their top prospects, announcing the shutdowns for Roch Cholowsky and Billy Carlson due to health issues.

Cholowsky, the 2026 No. 1 draft pick, will miss the rest of the season due to right wrist soreness. His High A Winston-Salem performance included a .167 average, one home run, and ten RBIs over nine games, last playing on August 15.

Billy Carlson, the 2025 first-round pick, has been sidelined by a skin infection. Carlson’s season ended with a .256 average, 13 doubles, and 20 RBIs in 57 Class A Kannapolis games, active until August 9.

MLB.com ranks Cholowsky as the top prospect and Carlson as the No. 3 prospect for the White Sox, with both Winston-Salem and Kannapolis concluding their seasons on September 6.
