Chicago White Sox Trio Surpasses 30 Home Runs in 2026

The Chicago White Sox have three players who have hit over 30 home runs in a season, a feat last achieved in 2008. Back then, Carlos Quentin hit 36, while Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome each contributed 34, propelling the team to the playoffs. In 2026, Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas, and Colson Montgomery reached this milestone, with the White Sox leading the American League Central by two games over the Cleveland Guardians, with 18 games left.

Power Trio Impact

Manager Will Venable noted the significance of having players who can change the game with a single swing. He said, “When you have three guys with 30 homers, that’s more challenges for the opposition’s pitcher.” This power will be essential during their playoff drive.

Miguel Vargas’s Path to 30

Miguel Vargas was the first of the three to achieve this season milestone. He made a powerful impression with a grand slam against the Marlins on March 30, contributing to a 9-4 victory. Vargas homered twice in a series against the Cubs, and his 20th came with a three-run homer against the Guardians on July 3. Despite a 12-game gap, his 30th came against the Twins.

Vargas commented on his achievement, stating, “I know how hard it is and I’ve been working hard. Achieving this means a lot.” Vargas has had four homers against the Tigers, with more games ahead against them from Sept. 17-20.

Colson Montgomery’s Home Run Journey

Colson Montgomery’s season also began with a grand slam against the Brewers. His 10th homer was against the Mariners on May 9. Montgomery shone in Yankee Stadium, hitting two on June 17. His 30th came against the Twins, and he hit his 31st the following night, setting a franchise record for a primary shortstop.

Montgomery said, “Doing it on the same night and sharing it with Vargas is awesome.” The White Sox face an important series against the Guardians starting Monday.

Munetaka Murakami’s Rapid Start

Munetaka Murakami, a key offseason addition, made an immediate impact with a home run on opening day against the Brewers. He hit homers in each game of the series. In April, he tied a franchise record with homers in five straight games. His 20th came on May 27, the only rookie in the modern era with 20+ homers before June.

A hamstring strain sidelined Murakami until July 10, but he reached 30 homers with a two-run shot against the Twins on Saturday. Murakami stated his focus was on staying healthy rather than home runs. Despite limited play against some teams, he homered twice against both the Tigers and Guardians.

The trio’s efforts have led the White Sox to 189 home runs this season, placing them second in the AL by mid-week, with a potential to reach 213.
