In Arlington, Texas, Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel attempted to tag Texas Rangers shortstop Ezequiel Duran at home plate during the second inning of Monday’s game. Braden Montgomery threw to Teel from right field, but Duran successfully reached home safely. Following the play, Teel left the field due to an injury to his left ankle. The White Sox have announced Teel is undergoing further evaluation.

This season has been challenging for Teel in terms of injuries. On March 10, while playing for Italy in the World Baseball Classic, he suffered a right hamstring strain. During his recovery, he experienced another setback, spraining the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee on May 16. This incident occurred during an injury rehab stint with Triple-A Charlotte when his spike got caught during a swing. Teel returned to the White Sox lineup for the 2026 regular season on June 22.

In 19 games this season, Teel has recorded a batting average of .190, an on-base percentage of .271, and a slugging percentage of .317, with two home runs and 14 RBIs. Following Teel’s injury on Monday, Drew Romo took over the catching duties.
