Golfer Charley Hull recently played a practical joke on her caddie, Adam Woodward, which stirred up mixed reactions. Despite some criticism, Hull remains unfazed.

Hull, 30, gave Woodward a fake scratch-off lottery ticket leading him to believe he’d won $100,000. She shared the incident with the media before the Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in England. Following this, critics voiced their opinions on social media, but Hull responded directly.

No, and people that have complaints about it, I’d say loosen up, Hull stated when asked about any regrets.

According to Hull, Woodward found the prank humorous and took it well.

He thought it was funny after, he’s not uptight, like it’s a joke. If people don’t like it they can lump it, do you know what I mean? I felt bad for (Woodward) but at the end of the day, I just got to have a good week and then at the end of the week I’ll buy him 100 scratch cards, she remarked.

Hull assured that Woodward had the chance to earn even more money if their performance on the course improved.

The prank unfolded earlier in the week when Hull purchased the fake lottery ticket on Monday and handed it to Woodward the following day. Woodward was initially ecstatic, thinking his fortune had changed drastically.

He’s scratching it, scratching it, scratching, and he’s like ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve won’ and he’s taken his hat off, he’s taken his glasses off. He’s literally running around the player’s lounge saying ‘I’ve won $100,000, I’m taking today off.’

Hull recounted that Woodward’s excitement was palpable as he reacted to the false win.

He was sweating, he was trembling, he couldn’t believe his luck, and we had to tell him it was fake and he nearly quit the job, Hull said, chuckling about the event.

In the tournament, Hull is performing well, standing tied for seventh at 2-under par after two rounds, only four strokes from the lead.
