During a news conference, Belichick addressed questions about Lombardi’s absence. He stated, “We’re working through some things,” highlighting the focus on handling current challenges as they arise.

University officials announced the investigation through the Office of University Counsel, sparked by concerns over allegations related to Lombardi’s personnel action on July 27. Athletic Director Steve Newmark emphasized the importance of a thorough but swift process.

Newmark noted that while speed is a priority, the integrity of the investigation is crucial. He did not confirm if others in the athletic department are implicated and avoided commenting on potential College Sports Commission involvement.
