Wildfires in Canada are now burning throughout the night, posing challenges to firefighters. Rising overnight temperatures across the country are causing fires to spread incessantly, exhausting fire crews.

Traditionally, nightfall provided an opportunity for firefighters to tackle wildfires. Lower temperatures and higher humidity at night made it feasible to manage flames, allowing crews to rest before resuming work in daylight. However, increasing overnight temperatures are changing this pattern.

Randy Schroeder, a fire chief from Alberta, noted that this persistent 24-hour fire cycle prolongs fires beyond what was typical years ago. Consequently, this demands a revision of firefighting strategies.

The continuous fire activity at night escalates firefighting costs. Schroeder, previously associated with the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association, mentioned that if teams cannot combat fires after dark, they have to retreat to avoid dangers.
