Chad Gilbert, New Found Glory Founding Member, Dies at 45

Chad Gilbert, a founding member and lead guitarist for the punk rock band New Found Glory, has passed away at the age of 45. His death was announced by the band and his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, in a joint Instagram post. Although the post didn’t specify the cause, Gilbert had been battling adrenal cancer since 2021 and recently underwent brain surgery due to tumors.

“On the morning of September 20th, Chad Everett Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep,” they wrote. “He was surrounded by friends and family, including his wife and mother, fulfilling his final wish.”

The band and family expressed their grief and gratitude, saying, “We are devastated by how quickly he left us, but grateful for his peaceful departure. The number of visitors at the hospital demonstrates how cherished Chad was.” Gilbert is survived by his wife, Lisa, his daughter, Lily, his mother, Jackie, and his brother, Brian.

New Found Glory highlighted Gilbert’s influential role in the band, stating, “Chad’s guitar playing, songwriting, and drive helped shape New Found Glory for nearly three decades through more than a dozen albums and numerous tours worldwide.”

Gilbert was first diagnosed with metastatic pheochromocytoma in 2021, a rare cancer originating in the adrenal glands. In February, doctors discovered three brain tumors, resulting in emergency surgery and treatments including radiation and immunotherapy. Despite these challenges, Gilbert returned to perform in Nashville, showing resilience and determination.

Born on March 9, 1981, in Coral Springs, Florida, Gilbert helped form New Found Glory in 1997, achieving success with albums like “Sticks and Stones.” The band became a defining part of the early-2000s pop-punk scene. Gilbert also contributed to other music projects and produced for various artists.

Gilbert’s contributions extended beyond New Found Glory, as he worked in hardcore music and production. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his music and influence in the industry. Chad Gilbert’s memory will continue to inspire fans and fellow musicians alike.
