Candidates Face Criticism for Running for Multiple Offices

Two prominent politicians in Chicago, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias and U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, are under scrutiny as they seek reelection for their current roles while also vying for the position of mayor. This decision has sparked criticism from various quarters.

“Alexi, Mike and Maria want to run for mayor, but none of them are willing to give up (running for) their current job to do it.” — Chicago mayoral candidate and attorney William Quinlan

A lawsuit has been filed against Giannoulias, Quigley, and Maria Pappas with the aim of preventing candidates from running for multiple offices at the same time.

Second Chances and Social Media Influencers

Jessica Biggs, a candidate for the Board of Education president, is receiving support from Janice Jackson, former CPS CEO. This comes amidst criticism over Biggs’ firing from CPS in 2018. Jackson praises Biggs for her dedication to children and families.

“She didn’t come back with a chip on her shoulder. She came back to serve and did the same thing she did when she was a principal, which was to look out for the kids and the families that she was entrusted with.” — Janice Jackson

The Chicago Teachers Union admits to hiring influencers to promote its political message. CTU Vice President Jackson Potter comments on modern communication methods.

“This is the new media system. This is how people are communicating nowadays.” — Jackson Potter

Tragic Case in Frankfort

A disturbing incident in Frankfort involves a mother, Corie Walsh, accused of the murder of her 2-year-old son. Her defense attorney argues she was experiencing psychosis at the time.

“Is this first-degree murder? Not by any stretch of the imagination. Corie was in a state of psychosis when she harmed her child.” — Defense attorney Robert Kerr
