Caitlin Clark missed her first game of the season when the Indiana Fever faced the Portland Fire. Despite her absence, the Fever secured a 90-73 victory. Concerns about Clark’s availability for the next game against the Golden State Valkyries were short-lived as she returned to score 22 points, leading Indiana to their third consecutive win.
Clark acknowledged the mental and physical challenges of recovery. “At the end of the day, it’s me and my confidence,” she mentioned. Having dealt with several soft tissue injuries in 2025, maintaining confidence has been a mental hurdle.
Clark’s promising career faced interruptions due to injuries in 2025. She earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2024 after 40 appearances, but a groin strain and an ankle bruise limited her to 13 games last season.
Her confidence fluctuates, especially at season beginnings. “These are the best players in the world, and if I’m not fully confident in Game 5, it might not be worth it,” she remarked. In the recent game, Clark logged 32 minutes, contributing nine assists.
Clark acknowledged the increased physical demands compared to offseason games. “Playing USA Basketball wasn’t as intense,” she explained. Understanding how her body feels post-game is crucial, and she added, “Overall, I feel good. It’s about taking care of my body.” The Fever and Valkyries will meet again in San Francisco on Thursday.

Clark is learning to navigate the mental aspect of recovering from injuries. “I need to give myself grace,” she said. Facing multiple challenges has been somewhat traumatizing, but she remains determined not to let back soreness become a long-term issue.
Off the court, Clark revealed the cover art for her upcoming children’s book, “EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams,” set for release in November. The book draws inspiration from her unique life experiences.
