A federal judge in Boston has blocked a fee imposed by the Trump administration on H-1B visas. The $100,000 fee was ruled as an unconstitutional tax, implemented without congressional approval. This decision was reported by Fox News correspondent David Spunt on ‘Special Report.’
The State Department plans to launch a new expedited visa service. This service is set to assist foreign business and tourist visa applicants in securing interview appointments in the U.S. within ten days. To avail of this service, applicants will need to pay an additional $750 fee on top of the standard $185 visa application fee. This information is detailed in a notice scheduled for publication in the Federal Register, as reported by The Associated Press.
The pilot program for the expedited service will span from July 1 to December 31. It might be extended based on demand. Embassies and consulates participating in this program will be announced before July 1.
This new service aims to reduce visa interview wait times. It comes against the backdrop of broader changes by the Trump administration regarding visa screening and compliance rules. These measures include requiring bonds of up to $15,000 from countries with high overstay rates and disclosing extensive personal history details like social media accounts.
Such new requirements have led to delays in visa processing globally. While the expedited service fee is implemented, it does not ensure the issuance of a visa. However, it may decrease wait times for visa interviews in countries outside the Visa Waiver Program, where waits can extend over several months.
