“Today, we celebrate this milestone amid another period of deep division, renewed questions about America’s future and role in the world, and serious threats to our own institutions and to our democracy itself,” he wrote.
Clinton’s wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election. In his statement, he did not directly mention Trump but criticized actions attributed to his administration. Clinton stated:
“The people in charge have unleashed masked agents on American communities to seize people from their homes, workplaces, and the street.”
He accused the administration of starting an unconstitutional war without clear objectives, exit strategy, or consideration for its consequences on global lives.

Clinton broadened his criticism to include the federal government and the judiciary. He alleged that with help from lifetime Supreme Court appointees and a compliant Congress:
“They have weaponized government to settle personal scores, prosecute enemies, stamp out free speech, and made the federal government a profit center for themselves and their allies.”
At the same time, Trump presided over the America250 festivities in Washington, D.C. He hailed what he referred to as America’s “Golden Age,” emphasizing his administration’s accomplishments, the military, and the economic outlook.
Clinton encouraged Americans to focus on the nation’s future as it enters its next 250 years, insisting that preserving democratic institutions requires placing common purpose over political grievances.
