During an appearance on Pod Save America, Sanders was asked by host Jon Favreau about his potential endorsement of Hong. Sanders replied, “I don’t think so,” citing unfamiliarity with the race. “I met Francesca a couple of years ago, I was in Wisconsin, and she seems very, very nice, but again this is a race I’m just not that familiar with,” he explained. He added that his involvement in governor’s races has been limited, referencing a recent endorsement in Maine for Democrat Troy Jackson.

Political commentators seized upon Sanders’ remarks. Some suggested that his lack of endorsement implied doubt about Hong’s chances of success. Many noted that Sanders previously supported Graham Platner, a candidate with political issues, yet hesitated to support Hong.

Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist in the Wisconsin state legislature, has been involved in discussions for her progressive policies.
