A violent incident occurred at the Canfield Fair involving Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. Her campaign reported that an armed individual attempted to attack her, resulting in injuries to several people.
Addie Bullock, Acton’s campaign communications director, stated, While attending the Canfield Fair, an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people.
She also conveyed gratitude towards law enforcement and mentioned that Dr. Acton is praying for the injured.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine confirmed Acton was unhurt and mentioned that he and his wife, Fran, had spoken with her. We are thankful Dr. Amy Acton was not hurt, and we send our thoughts to those who were injured,
DeWine said.
The altercation occurred at the Mahoning County Democratic booth. DeWine commended the quick response by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The attempted attack is now under investigation.
Details remain unclear about the man’s identity or whether he has been arrested. There is also no specific information on the extent of injuries.
The timing of this event aligns with warnings from Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin about threats public figures face during the campaign season. You’re never safe in the public eye,
Mullin noted.
Mullin emphasized that while free speech is crucial, crossing the line into violence is unacceptable.
Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and his team expressed condemnation over the Canfield Fair incident, stating that political events should be devoid of violence. Candidates should be able to meet with voters without having to worry about threats or violence,
said Connie Luck, Ramaswamy’s campaign communications director.
The November gubernatorial race between Acton and Ramaswamy is highly anticipated, with Acton’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic under scrutiny.
