Artist Scott LoBaido is creating what he calls the largest American flag painted in oil on canvas at the Great American State Fair in Washington D.C. The artwork, a 9-by-17-foot depiction of the flag, is part of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday. LoBaido insists that the flag carries an apolitical message, stating, “The American flag does not belong to any particular party.”

LoBaido, known for his pro-Trump stance, believes the piece may be the largest of its kind. He mentions that some Democrats attending the fair have expressed appreciation for the art, despite knowing his political views. He emphasizes that his work is not political, saying, “This flag is for everybody.”

The artist argues that the flag represents the freedom to protest, declaring that it protects protestors’ rights. “The American flag that men and women still die for gives you the freedom to be whatever you want,” he added.

“So that flag should always be up in the air,” LoBaido said.

The scale of the project distinguishes it from his previous work, as does the live painting setting at the fair. He describes the canvas as his largest detailed oil depiction of the flag.

LoBaido plans to finish the painting on Independence Day, hoping to make an emotional unveiling. He envisions the painting finding a permanent home, possibly even the White House ballroom. He adds that while former President Trump owns some of his paintings, acquiring this one might require a significant contribution, part of which would support charitable causes.
