Annual Hajj Pilgrimage Begins in Mecca

The annual Hajj pilgrimage, a significant pillar of Islam, commenced on Monday in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. More than 1.5 million pilgrims have traveled from abroad to participate, according to Saleh bin Saad Al-Murabba, commander of the Hajj passport forces.

The pilgrimage is taking place amid regional uncertainty, including a temporary ceasefire in the Iran war. Egyptian pilgrim Samya Abdul Moneim expressed gratitude for reaching Mecca. She highlighted the spiritual significance of the Hajj, which Muslims are required to perform once in a lifetime if they are able.

Pilgrims Face Intense Heat

Many pilgrims endure extreme heat, utilizing umbrellas and handheld fans for relief. Volunteers distribute water bottles and use large fans to mist water for cooling effects.
