Admiral Addresses Mental Health Concerns Amid Reports from USS Abraham Lincoln

Adm. Brad Cooper, the head of U.S. Central Command, acknowledged the challenges of prolonged sea deployments following reports of burnout and difficult conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln. These remarks came after his recent appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Reports highlighted the mental health issues faced by service members on the ship. Adm. Cooper emphasized that addressing these concerns is a top priority for the military.

However, he noted that some of the issues reported were considered “old news,” suggesting that the military had been aware of them for some time. While aiming to improve conditions, the admiral’s comments indicated that the stresses of lengthy deployments remain a significant challenge for the Navy.
