David Henrie, known for his role in Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” recently shared insights on his rejection of Hollywood’s secular lifestyle. He credits a life-changing visit to a monastery and friendship with fellow actor Kevin James for this transformation.

During an appearance on Raymond Arroyo’s “Arroyo Grande” podcast, Henrie discussed how his perspective shifted. He expressed a longing for an objective belief system amidst Hollywood’s relativistic culture, and materialism, which he termed “the bubblegum theory of pleasure.” Henrie described how fleeting satisfaction from the lifestyle left him feeling empty until he met Kevin James.

James invited Henrie to visit St. Michael’s Abbey in Orange County in 2012. There, Henrie underwent a general confession, which proved significant. He described the experience, saying, “I wrote a whole chapter book to bring to the priest there.” Henrie’s castmates included Jake T. Austin, Selena Gomez, Maria Canals-Barrera, Jennifer Stone, and himself.

Following the monastery visit, Henrie felt renewed. “It was the monastery that changed my life,” he affirmed, highlighting the impact of the trip with James.

Henrie ties his first monastery visit to his documentary series, “Seeking Beauty,” where he explores Italy’s art, architecture, food, music, and culture. The series premiered in January on EWTN+, with a second season set in Spain currently underway.
