A dog rescue organization in Ireland recently encountered a heart-wrenching situation. Dundalk Dog Rescue (DDR) discovered a dog left outside its facility, accompanied by a note that revealed little about the animal. The find left the team deeply affected, knowing so little about the dog.
A video dated May 28 and posted on DDR’s Facebook page shows a staff member filming the discovery. Security cameras captured the moment the dog was abandoned around 5:45 a.m. The dog, now named Hope, appeared afraid, staying low to the ground and avoiding eye contact. The only items left with her were a water bowl and an unsigned note from the previous owner.
The note shared some details about the owner’s situation but lacked information about Hope’s background, personality, health, or specific needs. DDR volunteers face the challenge of starting from scratch to learn about her and find her a permanent home.
Challenges in Finding Hope a Home
Legal procedures in Ireland mandate that lost or abandoned dogs without signed paperwork go through the pound system. Hope has now completed this process and is back with DDR. “Hope is a little unsettled, which is normal, but it’s nothing the team hasn’t dealt with before,” DDR volunteer Pam told Newsweek through Facebook.
For now, DDR is focusing on providing Hope with the time, space, and comfort she needs to settle. Staff aim to understand her behavior, personality, and needs as they observe her fitting into her new environment. By Thursday, Hope had not yet received adoption offers, but the staff remains patient, keen to match her with a suitable forever home.
“The next move will be to find a suitable forever home matched to her needs,” Pam noted. “Hope’s welfare and future are our only goals.”
