Ravens’ Trade for Maxx Crosby Falls Through: Hendrickson Signed Instead

The Baltimore Ravens caused a stir during the NFL offseason by initially agreeing to trade two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders for standout edge-rusher Maxx Crosby. However, they later withdrew from the trade when Crosby reportedly did not pass his physical exam.

Following this unexpected twist, the Ravens opted to sign Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson instead. Hendrickson secured a four-year deal reportedly worth $112 million. This move is widely seen as the Ravens’ effort to mitigate any backlash from stepping back on the Crosby deal.

The trade saga began when Crosby asked for a trade earlier in the offseason. Despite the trade falling apart, expectations of lingering tension between Crosby and the Raiders appear unfounded. NFL insider Jason La Canfora shared insights suggesting a different narrative.

“Crosby is working out on his own and not taking part in Las Vegas’s offseason practices, but league sources said he continues to throw himself into his recovery and make significant strides,” La Canfora reported.

La Canfora added, “Crosby has told friends around the league he is as fired up as ever to have a monster season following the public fallout of the Ravens backing out of the trade, and he was never going to be fully cleared for football activities in time for the start of May Organized Team Activity practices.”

There was speculation that the Raiders might quickly consider another trade due to Crosby’s previous trade request. However, the current consensus suggests Crosby will continue his tenure in Las Vegas. This decision seems likely to extend through his existing four-year, $116 million contract, which includes an option to exit after the 2027 season.

“He’s going to start the season there, and he’ll probably play his [expletive] off,” an unnamed NFL general manager conveyed to La Canfora. “They might get some calls (before the deadline), but I don’t think he’s getting moved now. I kind of think that ship has sailed.”
