Adam Copeland and Christian Cage broke a 25-year hiatus from tag team championships by defeating Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler for the AEW Tag Team Championship at the Double or Nothing event on Sunday. The intense match featured a variety of weapons, including ladders, tools, and a flaming table.
The match saw each wrestler pushed to their limits. Christian Cage endured repeated blows to his arm. Wheeler nearly lost part of his nose. Barbed wire left marks on all participants.
Stokely Hathaway, the voice of FTR, intervened during the match. However, Beth Copeland, known to fans as Beth Phoenix, made a surprise appearance to balance the odds. Her impact was short-lived as she was quickly neutralized.
Harwood attempted an extreme tactic by lighting a table on fire. As Wheeler prepared to drive Beth Copeland through it, Hathaway was inadvertently thrust in Wheeler’s path, resulting in his own fiery collision.
Following this, Copeland and Cage took control. They applied numerous submission holds on Harwood. Beth Copeland handed a spiked bat to Adam Copeland, which heightened Harwood’s agony, prompting him to declare, “I quit.” This victory secured the titles for Copeland and Cage.
Copeland and Cage are renowned for their previous achievements, having captured the WWE tag team titles seven times. Despite their individual pursuits in AEW, neither secured championships until now. Over two decades since their last reign, they have reclaimed the spotlight in the tag team division.
Their last tag team championship victory occurred in April 2001, during WrestleMania X-7, where they bested opponents in a tables, ladders, and chairs match. However, they relinquished the titles just 16 days later to Kane and The Undertaker.
