The Harvard Crimson secured a nail-biting victory against the Colgate Raiders with a final score of 20-17. This thrilling game showcased the strategic prowess often expected at Ivy League institutions.
Late in the fourth quarter, Colgate seemed poised to win after quarterback Jake Stearney connected with wide receiver Matt Fogler for a 13-yard touchdown pass. With only 27 seconds remaining, the Crimson faced pressure to respond decisively.
Harvard quarterback Charlie Smith made quick progress up the field, providing kicker Francisco Moscoso an opportunity to tie the game with a long field goal attempt. Unfortunately, a false start penalty pushed Harvard out of range, forcing a shift in strategy.
With time dwindling, Smith performed an incredible move, throwing the ball to Teigan Pelletier, who was not near the end zone. Pelletier managed to fend off Raiders defenders and, spotting Nate Bailey, passed him the ball. Bailey charged into the end zone as time expired, securing Harvard’s unexpected victory.
Harvard’s offense shone brightly, particularly Bailey, who recorded 16 catches for 197 yards and one touchdown. His achievement ranks as the second-highest number of receptions in a single game in Harvard history, trailing only behind Carl Owens and surpassing Kyle Juszczyk. Smith exhibited excellent play, achieving 369 passing yards and two touchdown passes.
On the other side, Stearney managed to complete 21 of 39 passes, totaling 188 yards with a touchdown pass. Fogler contributed significantly, recording 12 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown.
This victory brought Harvard to a 3-0 record, while Colgate fell to 4-2. The game quickly became popular among college football fans, with highlights spreading rapidly across social media platforms.
