Chad Tracy will remain in Boston longer, as the Boston Red Sox have officially named him as their manager. On Tuesday, the team lifted the interim title, making Tracy the 49th manager in the club’s history. Tracy stepped in for Alex Cora on April 25 when the team had a 10-17 record and steered them to a significant turnaround, with the team achieving a record of 74-55 under his guidance.
The Red Sox have signed Tracy to a three-year contract that extends through 2029, with a club option for 2030. Alongside this, the Red Sox exercised chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s options for 2029 and 2030, aligning the contracts of key figures within the organization.
Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy praised the leadership of both Craig Breslow and Chad Tracy in a statement. Kennedy highlighted Breslow’s role in enhancing the team’s baseball operations with clarity and discipline and acknowledged Tracy’s ability to gain immediate trust at the major league level after taking up a challenging position.
“Results matter greatly in this business, but so do judgment, character, and the ability to bring out the best in others,” Kennedy stated. “Craig and Chad have demonstrated all of those qualities, and they have earned our confidence in leading us forward.”
Under Tracy’s management, the Red Sox hold the second-best record in the American League and fifth-best in baseball since he took charge. The team recorded the best 30-game stretch in franchise history, going 27-3 from July 3 to August 7.
Due to their performance, the Red Sox have secured a place in the postseason. They are set to face the New York Yankees in a Wild Card Series, seeking revenge after last year’s elimination at the hands of the Yankees.
Before his time as a manager, Tracy had a career as a player from 2006 to 2013, spending time in the minor leagues with the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Kansas City Royals organizations. He started his coaching career in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels, serving as a minor league manager and later as a minor league coordinator until 2021. Tracy joined the Red Sox organization in 2022, managing Triple-A Worcester until moving up to the major leagues.
