The Chicago Bears face uncertainty as quarterback Caleb Williams sustained an injury during a game against the Minnesota Vikings. Williams was helped off the field by trainers after grabbing his right hamstring while trying to evade a tackle from Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel. He was taken to the Bears’ medical tent and later to the locker room for further evaluation.
The team disclosed that Williams suffered a hamstring injury and did not return to the game. As Williams left the field, he signaled support to the home crowd at Soldier Field with a thumbs up. The extent of the injury remains unknown until an MRI provides more details about the damage.
“We’ll know tomorrow,”Bears coach Ben Johnson stated, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
A torn hamstring could require three to six months of recovery, while a strain might sideline Williams for one to three weeks. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent filled in following Williams’ departure. The Bears lost the game to the Vikings, placing the season’s future in question.
Williams, now in his third NFL season, showed significant progress in 2025 under first-year head coach Ben Johnson. He led the Bears to an 11-6 record, capturing the NFC North title and securing a playoff berth for the first time since 2020. Williams set a franchise record with 3,942 passing yards and contributed 31 total touchdowns.
In the 2026 season opener, Williams impressed by completing 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 65 yards and added two more scores in a 59-37 victory over Carolina.
Coach Johnson expressed relief that the injury wasn’t knee-related but acknowledged the potential severity of a hamstring injury. “We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow,” he said, indicating the team’s cautious optimism.
