Upcoming Critical Season for Washington Commanders

The upcoming season will be crucial for several members of the Washington Commanders. Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, aims to recover from injury struggles faced in 2025. His performance this fall is vital as he prepares for contract negotiations at season’s end.

Head coach Dan Quinn, who took the Commanders to the NFC Championship in 2024, faces a challenge to improve the team’s performance after a setback last year. With two new coordinators onboard, Quinn’s third season will be pivotal for team progress.

Washington’s punter, Tress Way, will have a different kind of special season. As the longest-serving player on the roster, Way indicated to general manager Adam Peters and Quinn that this might be his final year in the league. He expressed deep appreciation for his career achievements, highlighting Pro Bowl selections and the honor of being a team captain alongside notable players like Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, Frankie Luvu, and Jeremy Reaves.

Tress Way stated, “Pro Bowls are sweet. Having that the rest of my life is really special, with a few jerseys hanging up. And this year is special because I am pretty sure this is going to be my last season.”>

Way joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2013 and signed with the Commanders in 2014. He’s 36 and has earned prestigious commendations such as second-team All-Pro honors in 2019 and three Pro Bowl nominations, including in the 2025 season.
