Revival of Medicare For All in 2026 Midterms

“Medicare for All” is gaining momentum as a key issue for progressives in the 2026 midterm elections. This concept, which Senator Bernie Sanders spotlighted during his 2016 Democratic primary campaign, proposes extending Medicare—a program currently offering hospital and doctor insurance to seniors—to encompass the entire population.

Back in 1970, a Republican senator proudly supported a similar initiative. However, what was mainstream then is viewed as radical today. The plan pushes for universal healthcare coverage, underlining its sustained popular support among many voters. The resurgence of this idea as a central topic highlights the ongoing discussions about healthcare reform in the United States.
