Washington Commanders Aim for Redemption in NFC East

Coaching and Quarterback Leadership

Head coach Dan Quinn begins his third year with the Washington Commanders, while quarterback Jayden Daniels is eager to regain his stellar career trajectory. Washington aims to demonstrate that last season’s underperformance was due to health issues and is prepared to contend in the NFC East.

2025 Struggles

Last season, the Commanders faced significant challenges, plagued by injuries throughout 2025. They lost 10 of their final 12 games, finishing 5–12 and missing the playoffs. Jayden Daniels endured injuries that limited him to seven starts, missing 10 full games. Consequently, the team relied heavily on backup quarterbacks. With an offense operating at reduced effectiveness and a defense allowing over 6.0 yards per play, Washington ranked near the bottom of the league in DVOA and suffered numerous close losses.

Offseason Moves

To regain momentum, general manager Adam Peters focused on strengthening the roster from January to August. Key additions included pass rusher Charles Omenihu to enhance the edge rotation and former Michigan safety Sonny Styles, drafted for secondary agility. The front office ensured continuity by re-signing key interior players, such as offensive guard Sam Cosmi and defensive tackle Daron Payne, while boosting the offensive line with veteran arrivals to safeguard Daniels.

Roster Prospects

If Daniels returns to his early-career health and performance, Washington could exhibit a strong offense. Terry McLaurin remains impressive and should thrive with Daniels actively playing. Stefon Diggs, though older, offers a reliable secondary option. Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt shows potential, warranting 15-20 touches per game instead of last year’s 10-15.

Defensively, Dan Quinn’s team boasts established talents with Daron Payne anchoring the interior and Omenihu disrupting off the edge. Despite this, secondary depth remains critical, with young talents and new additions like Styles facing early challenges against division opponents.

Betting Perspective

The betting line sets Washington’s win total at 6.5. Given a similar team as last year, an upside in one-score games could push them over this line. Although improvements are anticipated from Dallas and the Giants, the Eagles might regress. An over 6.5 win total seems plausible with an enhanced defense, better health, and competent offense.
