President Donald Trump has expressed criticism toward a Republican contender in the Alaska Senate primary. This candidate is challenging his endorsed choice with an identical name.
In the upcoming midterm elections, two candidates named Dan Sullivan are competing for a ballot spot. The incumbent, Senator Dan Sullivan, faces competition from retired schoolteacher Dan J. Sullivan. The latter recently secured a legal victory to stay on Alaska’s ballot. The incumbent senator and his Republican supporters had alleged that Dan J. Sullivan was recruited by Democrats to confuse voters.
The president urged voters to support the incumbent senator, who has served Alaska since 2015. He labeled the retired schoolteacher as an “imposter” working with Democrats.
“ALASKA: Be careful, VOTE FOR THE REAL DAN SULLIVAN TODAY,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Tuesday. “Through me, he’s brought HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS BACK TO YOUR STATE. The Dumocrats know how good he is and have put up an imposter of the same name.”
He further added: “Vote for the ‘INCUMBENT SENATOR.’ Don’t let these Fraudsters get away with this HOAX. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Dan J. Sullivan, who taught on the island of Petersburg, denied these claims. He stated his candidacy arose from his discontent with the current senator.
This story is still unfolding, with more updates expected.
