Trinidad Chambliss made a significant leap from being a Division II standout at Ferris State to emerging as a prominent quarterback at Ole Miss under coach Lane Kiffin last season. Chambliss now has a chance to solidify his position as a top quarterback prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft with a strong performance this fall.

Kiffin, now coaching at LSU, is nurturing another potential top draft pick, Sam Leavitt. Leavitt transferred from Arizona State to play under Kiffin. In 2024, he led Arizona State to a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff berth, showcasing his capabilities. However, his form dipped in 2025 due to a foot injury.

Jordan Reid from ESPN highlighted that some NFL scouts believe Leavitt could move from a Day 2 prospect to a first-round pick if he excels at LSU. “Quarterback Sam Leavitt is looking to rebound after following up a breakout 2024 season at Arizona State with an injury-riddled seven-game campaign last year,” Reid wrote.

“A quick-footed, dual-threat signal-caller, Leavitt has tools that fit seamlessly into the Kiffin scheme, which expedites the development of passers. There’s a path for Leavitt to emerge from his current Day 2 status into Round 1 consideration.”

In 2024, Leavitt had an impressive season, throwing for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Despite his foot injury last season, he managed a record of 5-2 as a starter, totaling 1,628 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions.

This month, Leavitt reported full recovery on the field, although he exercises foot maintenance during warmups. Coaching sessions have shown improved performance, and Kiffin praised Leavitt’s recent progress in training camp compared to spring practice.

“Now he’s healthy, he’s had a great week and we’re really excited about him,” Kiffin said.

With a stronger team around him at LSU than at Arizona State, Leavitt is poised to lead LSU to a potential College Football Playoff appearance this season. A deep run could enhance his draft prospects significantly, setting him up for a prominent selection on draft night.
