Voters in four of Alabama’s seven congressional districts are participating in primary elections under a newly redrawn map that advantages the Republican Party. This change follows the Supreme Court’s decision in April that reduced the reach of the Voting Rights Act.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, a Republican, delayed the primaries in these districts following the court ruling. The revised map has eliminated one of the two districts where Black voters held the majority.

Former President Donald Trump has shown support for candidates in these new districts. He endorsed former congressman Jerry Carl and Alabama state representative Rhett Marques. Marques was recently seen engaging with voters at a meet-the-candidates event in Dothan, Alabama.
