Stefanishyna informed reporters that personnel changes at the State Department and the White House have improved the relationship. Ukraine now regularly updates on its military position and has addressed earlier misconceptions about Russia’s strength in the ongoing conflict.

She emphasized that Ukraine should be seen as a success for President Trump, pointing out how relations have evolved since the tense meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance in February 2025. Ukraine is now presenting itself as a key contributor to European security, shifting from merely seeking support to delivering concrete results in terms of defense cooperation and missile production.

Regarding potential visits by envoys Steve Witkoff or Jared Kushner, Stefanishyna confirmed discussions but did not specify timing. She also indicated plans for further diplomacy to achieve a ceasefire before a potentially harsh winter.

On air defense, discussions are ongoing about long-term procurement and missile swaps, although no firm pledges have been made yet. Stefanishyna made it clear that Ukraine is not linking the Mideast conflict with its own war, clarifying that a recent strike on an Iranian vessel was unintended and promptly followed by diplomatic communication.

The ambassador referred to a Russian missile incident in Poland as evidence that Moscow’s threats extend beyond Ukraine, admitting Ukraine failed to intercept it but emphasized the strategic impact of Ukraine’s long-range attacks deep into Russia.

She expressed optimism about a bill previously championed by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, aimed at penalizing Russia economically. Stefanishyna predicted major consequences if the bill passed soon.

Patriot interceptor production plans in Ukraine are advancing, with estimates ranging from one year to five years to complete, though efforts to shorten this timeline are active. Involvement by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin is underway, and the White House has requested a roadmap for establishing this capacity.

Stefanishyna also commented on conservative activist Laura Loomer’s visit to Ukraine, noting the impact but choosing not to detail the trip’s arrangements. She mentioned Loomer’s visit to McDonald’s in Kyiv was her suggestion and reflected positively on Zelenskyy’s interaction during the visit.

The ambassador noted her decision to resign, motivated by domestic political factors and an asset declaration inquiry, while emphasizing that President Zelenskyy supported her continuation due to crucial ongoing negotiations.
