Spanish Goalkeeper Borja Iglesias Prepares for World Cup Final Against Argentina

Spanish goalkeeper Borja Iglesias is set for the most significant match of his career. On Sunday afternoon, he will face Argentina in the World Cup final at New York/New Jersey Stadium.

If Spain emerges victorious, Iglesias will have the opportunity to shake hands with President Donald Trump. However, Iglesias has openly expressed his disapproval of Trump. In a conversation with the Spanish media on Saturday, he stated, “I don’t want to go to prison.” He indicated his hope that the meeting happens quickly and that all involved remain in good spirits.

Despite any personal opinions, Iglesias emphasized his focus on the present and avoiding unnecessary controversy. He acknowledged the limits of his influence, saying, “People know perfectly well what I think…I don’t have that much power to tackle certain things.”

Iglesias has been vocal in other areas. He has supported pro-Palestinian protesters and criticized a former Spanish soccer federation leader who left his position following inappropriate conduct after the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Iglesias commented on Trump, suggesting the president “struggles” with those advocating “for progress and for fundamental values.” Trump will attend the World Cup final, having previously participated in the trophy presentation at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Spain’s final against Argentina kicks off at 3 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX.
