Despite the playoff setback, the Celtics excelled during the NBA draft. Ben Golliver from ESPN awarded them an A- for their selections. Boston secured Chris Cenac Jr. at No. 27 and Dillon Mitchell at No. 40. These choices aim to directly address the playoff challenges the team encountered.

According to Golliver, Cenac, standing 6-foot-11 and weighing 240 pounds, may be a ‘tweener,’ potentially fitting between power forward and center. Yet, he fulfills a significant positional gap for Boston, whose frontcourt struggles were apparent against the 76ers. Nevertheless, Cenac will likely require time to develop to meet his high school prospects.

With the Celtics picking at No. 27, they were without top-tier talent. Cenac’s selection, however, is seen as underrated, given his potential. His record at the University of Houston, where he shot 33.3% from 3-point range, is commendable for a freshman in a tough environment. This statistic indicates he could be instrumental in improving Boston’s 3-point performance.

Given time, Cenac might evolve into an exceptional 3-point shooter. For the present, he will bolster the team’s depth, providing relief for star players and adding valuable contributions off the bench.
