Xander Schauffele and many others are gearing up for an exciting weekend in New England. The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, for the Travelers Championship after the challenges of Shinnecock Hills for the U.S. Open.
Only three players finished under par at the third major of the golf season. However, the Travelers Championship often sees much lower scores. Two years ago, Scottie Scheffler won at 22-under after a playoff. Jim Furyk also made history here with a round of 58.

“I didn’t even mind the rain today,” Schauffele, the 2022 Travelers winner, shared after a practice round. He enjoys the break from the rigors of Shinnecock, where he finished at +2, tied for 11th. The event following the U.S. Open holds a special place as a favorite for the two-time major champion.
Scores in the minus-20s aren’t expected this year, as the course presents greater challenges. Keegan Bradley claimed victory last year at -15. Yet, Schauffele appreciates the course’s adjustments. “There’s plenty of tricky spots,” he mentioned. “Sometimes, it feels like you should pick shots up, and sometimes you don’t. It is a fun course.” The changes include narrowing and increased rough, setting the stage for a competitive mid-teens score.
The attraction of the Travelers Championship extends beyond the course layout. “Everything from the food, to the coffee, to the gifts for your wife and yourself,” Schauffele noted, praising the event’s hospitality. The details create a welcoming atmosphere for players, akin to a family environment.
The tournament begins Thursday morning, with Schauffele paired alongside three-time Ryder Cup teammate Collin Morikawa, teeing off at 10:55 a.m. ET.
