Comedian Larry David has criticized President Donald Trump’s celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. The event, a UFC fight held at the White House, prompted David to express embarrassment as an American. In an interview with Variety, David described the occasion as a travesty. “It was a travesty,” David commented to the publication. “What else can you say about it?”
David, who is 78 years old, shared his sense of feeling unpatriotic in light of the event. The comedian made these statements during the premiere of his new HBO series “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.” The series, set to debut on June 26, includes sketches that satirize pivotal moments in U.S. history. It will feature several celebrity guests such as Jerry Seinfeld, Vince Vaughn, Rita Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Barack Obama.
Obama’s company, Higher Ground, produced the series. David mentioned that Obama is “really good at ad-libbing.”
The UFC Freedom 250 event marked Trump’s 80th birthday, attracting approximately 4,300 attendees, including 1,200 active-duty service members. The event featured performances by the Marine Band and Zac Brown, with the national anthem played before ending with a flyover by the Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds.
President Trump praised the event, emphasizing its significance in the sports world. Fox News Digital sought a response from the White House.
