Rod Stewart, 81, encountered a health scare during a performance at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City. The musician experienced a noticeable slowdown in his performance, creating concern among attendees.
Video footage obtained by TMZ shows Stewart leaning on equipment amidst his performance, signaling backstage for assistance. Crew members swiftly provided support, with one person offering an oxygen tank and another applying a cold compress to his neck.
Addressing the audience, Stewart acknowledged, “The show must go on,” before admitting he “nearly fainted.” A representative for Stewart has yet to comment on the incident.
Stewart’s recent health issues have led to cancellations. Last month, he canceled two Las Vegas shows just hours before they were set to begin. These performances, scheduled at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on May 29 and 30, were canceled based on his doctor’s advice.
Stewart expressed regret over the cancellations, citing a sinus infection and the necessity for vocal rest. He assured fans of his intentions to come back with shows starting June 2.
Earlier in the month, Stewart canceled additional shows in California. He informed fans via Instagram that despite receiving treatment, his voice was not fully recovered. He expressed disappointment and an apology for the inconvenience, assuring fans of his efforts to reschedule.
Following the cancellations, Stewart traveled to Boston with his sons to attend the World Cup. This sparked criticism from some fans who questioned his ability to travel for leisure shortly after canceling concerts.
Despite recent challenges, Stewart remains committed to performing. He has clarified that his 2024 farewell tour announcement pertains only to large-scale tours. He intends to continue performing on a smaller scale. In a statement, he emphasized his passion for music, his readiness to perform, and physical fitness.
