Israel-Hezbollah Tensions Ease Amid New Military Directive

The recent conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah has reduced following the Israeli government’s decision to limit its military actions to defensive measures in Lebanon.

By late Sunday, there were no reported attacks from Israeli forces on Lebanon or strikes from Hezbollah on Israeli targets. However, whether this new directive, announced late Saturday, will fully resolve the underlying tensions remains uncertain. These tensions have previously led to deadly clashes on Friday and Saturday, posing a risk to a preliminary peace deal between the U.S. and Iran.

President Trump voiced his frustration with Iran’s involvement in Lebanon through social media, urging Iran to halt the activities of its proxies in the region. He warned that failure to do so would result in a harsher response than last week’s action.

Recent weeks have seen multiple ceasefires declared, broken, and reinstated in Lebanon, as disputes continued over the definition of defensive actions by Israeli forces.

Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, emphasized that Israeli Defense Force soldiers are not restricted from eliminating threats in Lebanon.

The focus of the recent clashes was around the Tebnit area and Ali al-Taher ridgeline, which overlooks Nabatieh, a significant city in southern Lebanon.
