Fire at Dominican Republic Resort Claims Life of Italian Tourist

A tragic fire struck the resort town of Bayahibe in the Dominican Republic, resulting in the death of an Italian tourist and injuries to several others. The victim, 46-year-old Francesca Valentino, lost her life at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach Hotel. This information comes from the Dominican Republic’s Directorate of Out-of-Hospital Emergency Services (DAEH).

The blaze led to at least nine injuries, with three individuals requiring treatment at off-site medical facilities. Authorities evacuated 1,690 tourists from Bayahibe as a safety measure, as reported by The Associated Press.

At least 18 dead, 120 injured in roof collapse at Dominican Republic nightclub.

Drone footage showed smoke pouring from multiple beachside structures, casting large shadows on the clear blue waters. Authorities suggest the fire spread quickly due to the flammable roof materials, which include palm, and windy conditions exacerbating the situation. This was reported by Reuters.

Guests were relocated to nearby hotels, such as the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace, which did not suffer any damage. The hotel is operated by the same management as the affected Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach Hotel, according to Reuters.

The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) assured that tourist activities in Bayahibe continue unaffected and safely. A video from the scene shows a drone spraying water over the smoldering ruins, attempting to control the embers.

Fox News Digital has reached out to DAEH, COE, and Wyndham Hotels and Resorts for further comments. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
