Republicans Favorable in Maine House Race as Democrats Vie for Nomination

As voters in Maine prepare to cast their ballots, Republicans are seen as having an advantage in the contest for an open House seat. This seat is located in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, which Rep. Jared Golden, a Democrat, is vacating. The Cook Political Report has assessed the race as leaning towards the GOP.

President Donald Trump has shown his support for former Governor Paul LePage, who is considered the GOP’s likely candidate. On the Democratic side, competition is underway. State Sen. Joe Baldacci, state Auditor Matthew Dunlap, and Jordan Wood, a former chief of staff to Rep. Katie Porter, are all candidates for the Democratic nomination.

Meanwhile, Democrat Chellie Pingree is running for reelection in the 1st Congressional District. The polls are set to close at 8 p.m., and live results will be provided by Decision Desk HQ.
