Karen Read’s Legal Battle

Karen Read’s Legal Battle

Karen Read, a former financial analyst and college professor from Massachusetts, rose to media prominence in early 2022. Her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, died in January of that year, which led to Read being charged with murder in June 2022. She pleaded not guilty, accused of hitting O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV and leaving him during a snowstorm following a heated, drunken argument.

Read’s first trial commenced in April 2024, where she had a formidable legal team. The team included Alan Jackson, renowned for his role in acquitting Kevin Spacey of sexual assault charges in 2019. This trial concluded with a hung jury, leaving Read’s future uncertain.

She is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and fleeing the scene of a fatal accident related to O’Keefe’s demise. Throughout the legal proceedings, Read has consistently asserted her innocence, denying the allegations against her.
