Potential Major Roster Changes for Eagles and Giants

With the first NFL game of the 2026 season 100 days away, the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are considering significant roster changes involving top wide receivers. Moves concerning A.J. Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. may occur as early as Monday.

Odell Beckham Jr. and the Giants

The Giants have been in discussions with Beckham for over a month and plan to bring him to their facility on Monday. This information was confirmed by sources to OutKick and Fox News Digital. Additionally, the Giants will be conducting workouts with JuJu Smith-Schuster, Anthony Miller, and Braxton Berrios on the same day. Smith-Schuster is familiar with the team’s offense from his previous experience under the Giants’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy in Kansas City.

Beckham, at 33, is eager to rejoin the team that drafted him in 2014. He has been actively seeking a contract offer and an opportunity to return. Over the weekend, Beckham attended a team charity softball game and interacted fully with quarterback Jaxson Dart and other players.

The Giants are in need of receiving assistance after losing Gunner Olszewski for the season due to a suspected Achilles tear. Although Beckham does not contribute to special teams like Olszewski or Berrios might, he is favored by coach John Harbaugh. He also provides backup while Malik Nabors recovers from ACL surgery and the removal of scar tissue.

A.J. Brown and the Eagles

The Eagles now have an increased ability to consider trading A.J. Brown due to salary cap mechanisms that became active on June 1. Before June 1, trading Brown would have resulted in a $43.4 million dead-money charge, which was not feasible for the Eagles. However, as of Monday, this charge decreases to $16.3 million, spread over multiple seasons, making a trade more viable. The Eagles have been talking to several teams about trading Brown since before the NFL Draft. The New England Patriots have shown persistent interest, though they are unwilling to give up a 2027 first-round pick, which the Eagles are demanding in return.

General manager Howie Rosen is committed to ensuring a fair market value is obtained for Brown, although his dissatisfaction with his role has been evident. A.J. Brown, despite his $32 million annual contract, has voiced frustration over his role in Philadelphia’s offense. This frustration stems from the Eagles’ focus on a run-heavy strategy centered on Saquon Barkley’s 2,000-yard season rather than the passing game.

The Eagles have been enhancing their receiving depth throughout the offseason. The sentiment among NFL insiders is that Philadelphia has been preparing for a future without Brown, which seems closer now with the financial flexibility beginning Monday.
