Houston has a rich hockey history, such as the Houston Aeros from the World Hockey Association in the 1970s where Gordie Howe and his sons played.

“There are numerous factors in expansion, including the need to cover the potential $2 billion expansion fee,” highlights the varied opportunities Austin and Houston offer.

Austin is the country’s largest market without a team in the four major North American sports leagues. The NHL could capitalize on being the first league to set up there, similar to their successful entry into Las Vegas with the Golden Knights.
