A person of interest has been detained following an incident in which a 5-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet while riding his bicycle outside his home in Detroit. The child, identified by his family as Kaizer, has been discharged from the hospital and is expected to recover.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening on Lindsay Street near Trojan Avenue, adjacent to Fargo-Oakfield Park in Detroit’s west side. According to Kaizer’s father, the boy was riding his bicycle near the driveway and sidewalk in front of their home when gunfire erupted. “He just fell on the ground out of nowhere,” the father recounted.

Initially, Kaizer believed he was struck by a firework. “He was screaming, ‘A firecracker hit me,'” his father shared. “I couldn’t tell what happened at first. Then I saw blood running down his arm. I ripped my shirt off and tried to keep him calm.” The father quickly transported his son to a nearby hospital, where Kaizer received treatment and was later released on Wednesday afternoon.

During a news conference on Tuesday night, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison stated that investigators suspect the shooter was a masked teenager. Kaizer was described as an innocent bystander in a senseless act of violence. Sources indicated that Detroit police apprehended the teenager on Wednesday afternoon and are searching for at least one more suspect.

The Detroit police have not disclosed further details regarding the suspects or potential charges, as the investigation is still ongoing. Kaizer’s father expressed his belief that his son’s survival was a miracle. “I know God was watching over him,” he said. “I just can’t believe somebody would bring a gun to a park where innocent children are playing.”
