A young boy aged 5 was critically injured in a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s Near West Side, specifically in the Little Italy/UIC neighborhood. The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. According to Chicago police, a black SUV approached a large group on the 1000 block of West 14th Place, where someone inside began firing.
The child sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Emergency responders transported him to Stroger Hospital, where he is in critical condition. A 39-year-old man was also injured during the attack, suffering a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was treated at the same hospital and was reported to be in good condition.
The SUV involved in the shooting fled south on Morgan Street, and no arrests have been made. Detectives are currently investigating the case.
