Atlantic City, New Jersey, was once known as a vibrant casino resort capital on the East Coast. Today, it has a different reputation. Although the city still boasts notable hotels and casinos, crime and corruption have altered its image over time. Unlike most beaches in New Jersey, Atlantic City’s beach remains free, preserving some of its appeal.
Wrestling star Grayson Waller recently shared his thoughts on Atlantic City during an event there. Waller performed at the iconic Boardwalk Hall, which hosted WWE’s ‘Monday Night Raw’ and a taping of ‘Friday Night SmackDown.’ He posted a video on social media, describing the city as the “saddest city in America,” likening it to “Las Vegas for people who have given up on life.” He shared a clip of his morning run on the beach, showing the Ferris wheel at sunset, and noted, “While the rest of the Raw roster is sleeping in, I’m out here getting after it. I don’t want to end up like one of these people who has to vacation in Atlantic City, New Jersey.”
However, not all WWE stars view Atlantic City similarly. Matt Cardona, another wrestling figure, has fond memories of the city. Cardona performed at the Showboat Hotel for Game Changer Wrestling. The hotel’s ballroom transformed into a wrestling ring, creating memorable matches within the independent wrestling scene. Cardona expressed his sentimental connection by stating, “Back in Atlantic City tonight for @WWE. Matt Cardona, the man, was born on Long Island. Matt Cardona, the pro wrestler, was born in AC!”
The contrasting views of the city highlight how experiences in Atlantic City can vary greatly, depending on personal encounters and memories.
