Whoopi Goldberg Defends Trump and Mamdani’s Attendance at Knicks Game

Whoopi Goldberg spoke out on “The View” regarding President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. She emphasized that both are devoted Knicks fans.

“I think anybody who’s a Knicks fan should be there,” Goldberg expressed. “You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don’t have to like you.”

After clips were shown of fans objecting to their attendance, Goldberg insisted, “Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been, they’re New Yorkers. There’s nothing either of them can do to change what’s happening in this city for this team.”

Trump and Dolan’s Invitation

Trump acknowledged that Knicks owner James Dolan had personally invited him. “I’ve been a Knicks fan for a long time and also a Jim Dolan fan,” Trump stated, confirming his plans to attend.

Some fans voiced that neither political figure should attend. A fan opinion played on the show argued against their presence.

Goldberg’s Perspective

Goldberg dismissed notions that their attendance could negatively impact the game’s outcome. “You know what, I don’t think anything can jinx anything,” she asserted. “I think these guys are on a mission.”

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested Trump could face blame if the Knicks lost. Sunny Hostin interjected about a potential “jinx,” but Goldberg emphasized focusing energy on supporting the team.

Concerns and Responses

Some fans feared Trump’s presence might stir chaos on an already significant night at the Garden. Goldberg advised putting positive energy towards the team instead.

Trump plans to attend as Dolan’s guest, while Mamdani is expected separately and will avoid sitting with Trump. Security concerns related to Trump’s attendance led to a canceled watch party outside the venue and increased fan screening.
