Wendy’s Brings Back T-Rex Burger

A Wendy’s burger long thought extinct has made a return. The T-Rex burger, with a staggering 3,000 calories, costs $29.99 and is available at a franchise in Edmond, Oklahoma. Participants who finish the massive nine-patty cheeseburger within nine minutes receive a T-shirt and a special prize.

“Think you can take down the T-Rex? Prove it,” reads a sign advertising the challenge.

The burger, spotted on Reddit in September, has sparked mixed reactions from users. Some criticized the high-calorie item, labeling it “gross” and “dumb.” Others joked it’s a formula for “high cholesterol and clogged arteries.” One user commented, “Dave Thomas is rolling over in his grave,” referring to Wendy’s founder.

Despite criticism, some people are eager to take on the challenge, with comments expressing confidence in “destroying” the burger. “Pretty decent deal actually,” said one supporter.

Dietitian Lauren Manaker, speaking to Fox News Digital, mentioned that trying this novelty burger is about the experience rather than everyday nutrition. “If someone wants to try it for fun, I’d encourage sharing it, slowing down and balancing the rest of the day with plenty of water, fruits, vegetables, and other satisfying foods,” she advised.

An employee at the Edmond location indicated the promotion starts on September 10 and hinted at a voucher for a free meal as a prize. Participants won’t need to finish fries and a drink to complete the challenge.

Reports say the T-Rex burger dates back to the mid-2000s. It initially appeared as a joke in Sports Illustrated, prompting attempts to order it at Wendy’s. A franchise in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada offered it until corporate halted it around 2013.

“For obvious reasons, Wendy’s of Brandon neither condones nor promotes the idea of anyone consuming a nine-patty hamburger in one sitting,” an employee said.

The T-Rex burger lived on as a secret menu hack, with customers ordering a Dave’s Triple and adding six extra patties.

Fox News Digital sought comments from Wendy’s corporate in Ohio, but no additional information was provided.
