Recent research indicates that popular weight-loss medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy might also offer benefits in treating or preventing certain types of cancer. These drugs belong to a class called GLP-1s and are currently used by about one in eight adults in the United States. This potential cancer treatment is a new and unexpected benefit associated with these drugs.

William Brangham, a well-regarded correspondent and producer for PBS News Hour, has reported on this emerging finding. As GLP-1s continue to be studied, their use in the medical field might broaden beyond weight loss.
