Washington Commanders Quarterback Jayden Daniels Injured Again

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the injury following the team’s loss. This mirrors a previous injury Daniels sustained, sidelining him for four weeks during the last season.

Daniels will receive further medical evaluations on Monday, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Due to Daniels being unavailable, the Commanders are likely to start Marcus Mariota for their upcoming game with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

Quinn remarked on the situation, saying, “Once I know an update that we can move forward with, then I’ll give you that,” adding how unfortunate the injury is given Daniels’ strong performance. The team plans to support Mariota as their quarterback until Daniels returns.

The injury happened in the last play of the first half, appearing quite severe on replays, prompting analyst Tom Brady to react with surprise. Reflecting on the third-and-goal call with three seconds left in the second quarter, Quinn commented, “I thought looking back on it, at the 1-yard line, we need touchdowns. I don’t regret that call. Anytime someone’s injured, you play the ‘what if’ game. I don’t think this is one of those times for me. I hate that it happened. I wasn’t hesitant about going into that spot. We’re going to be aggressive in this game against their offense. The outcome is unfortunate, but it wasn’t a ‘what if’ or ‘I wish I had done something differently.’”

During his sophomore season, Daniels played only seven games due to multiple injuries, including this recurring elbow injury, along with a knee sprain and a hamstring injury.
